The Box Shop programme is a 10 months’ retail readiness programme that aims to develop fashion entrepreneurs that have existing businesses operating in Gauteng. The programme is designed to equip fashion entrepreneurs with business skills and the necessary ability to potentially supply retailers. This is done through masterclasses and interactive sessions with Business Advisors and mentors through coaching and mentorship.

Programme Cycle

3 Month Masterclasses

The Box Shop program is a part-time programme (3 days per week). During this time, Entrepreneurs will be on a 10 -week training and coaching programme. Each week the programme will be tackling specific area of their business from Fashion Value Chain, logistics to Doing Business with the retailers.

Product development

The programme has a product development component that is delivered simultaneously with the business development component. Product development will specifically hone in to Quality Control Manual and CMT liaison to boost manufacturing capacity in order to meet Retailer’s demand. This component of the programme will be delivered by a Retail Expert who has experience working with retailers.

Industry Practical Know-How

The programme has partnered with experts within the field of retail to make sure you get the best practical knowledge on how to get your products to big retailers.

1 Month Product Pitching to Buyers

The Box Shop programme will set up meetings with buyers who are within the retail and boutique sector. Fashion Entrepreneurs will go to product pitching training to get them ready to meet with buyers. Entrepreneurs will also receive coaching on how to pitch their brand, identify their target market & marketing strategies.

Access to Market

The programme will partner with other retailers to create opportunities for fashion entrepreneurs who are in the programme. The Access to Market component will include pitching to The Box Shop Outlet Operators to get your product to be sold at the store. The programme will also facilitate links with other eCommerce sites to extended more access to market opportunities.

6 Months Coaching and mentoring

The last phase of the programme includes coaching and mentorship. Fashion Entrepreneurs will have access to a mentor over a 6 months period who will guide them in their business growth and development. During this phase entrepreneurs will be able to take part in exhibitions and have access to Box Shop Pop Up Stand and digital marketing one on one coaching sessions. Lastly, based on the needs of the business, the programme will offer grant funding to be used in the business.

Key Dates

Cohort 1: Call to entry NOW CLOSED !

The programme has a two-step application process. The first step is the online application which will evaluate the participants on basic business & financial understanding, as well as on the solidity of their business structure. The 2nd step a half a day-long diagnostic session, where the applicants will be invited for a business analysis session, identifying gaps and areas of needs. These sessions aim to give a proper analysis of where your business is and how to walk the journey with you being fully engaged. A development plan will be created together with you from day you get accepted into the programme.

Graduation: Cohort 1 (April 2020)

At the end of the program all participates will graduate from programme based on their business readiness to work with retailers. Each business will present its achievement from the start of the programme until the end, this will include key milestones and what they have gained from the programme. Best performed business will receive an award and a grand prize.
